On the last day of the Constitutional Convention, September 18, 1787, a lady asked Dr. (Benjamin) Franklin, “Well, Doctor, what have we got--a republic or a monarchy?” – “A republic,” replied the Doctor, “if you can keep it.”*
When our republic and our freedom is threatened as it is now in 2025, we must realize that we, the citizens, in this democracy/republic are the ultimate rulers of this country and we must act like it.
Citizens must envision the country we want, then work to bring our collective vision into reality.
The most basic thing that must be done is expressed in our goal:
One Citizen, One Vote! (Each citizen has a vote and each citizen’s vote is equal.)
If, in the 1960s, citizens had waited for elected officials to end segregation in restaurants, libraries, on buses and in other public accommodations, and if we had waited for elected officials to get Blacks in the South, the right to vote, we, some 60 years later, probably would still be waiting.
Mohandas Gandhi and the movement in India succeeded in freeing that country from colonization by Britain in1947. In so doing, Gandhi gave the world a way to bring about social change without killing and maiming our fellow human beings. It was called nonviolence.
A better name for nonviolence is AGAPIC ENERGY. Agapic is the adjective for the Hindi word agape, which means “love of humankind.” Agapic energy therefore means “the power of love of humankind,” or “the energy produced by love of humankind.”
This undertaking will be a nonviolent one. There will be no use of violence by members of Keep the Republic 2025.
Strategy will be developed by the people who are doing the work.
Many people have worked, sacrificed, fought and died so that we could enjoy the freedoms we have.
Now, it is our turn to safeguard and defend democracy and the United States of America for ourselves and for future generations.
*The source of the quotation of Dr. Benjamin Franklin is a journal kept by James McHenry (1753-1816) while he was a Maryland delegate to the Constitutional Convention.
The Agapic Energy Campaign is our structured approach to creating meaningful and lasting change and every action we take is rooted in love, justice, and accountability.
